Time for a taper!
With this last 10 mile run, it's time to start the "taper", or ramping down, of my training for the upcoming Parkersburg race. Feeling pretty good about my last few runs, so I hope that translates into success on the race course. Really, I'm just aiming to finish the race without going into the medical tent :-)

Three adolescent frogs in the pond
Last night I took a flashlight out to see how the pond was doing, and saw three young frogs hanging out in the pond, each floating lazily against a lily pad. Nice to see some young pond life that was able to escape the snake!

Still worn out?
I think I weakened my immune system enough from running for so long on Saturday that I got a cold today. Not feeling terrible, but just a little bit off ever since I woke up. Perhaps it was not a good idea to participate in my scheduled 6 mile run this morning. It was pouring all morning long! We managed to finish the 6 miles in just under one hour.
Our softball game scheduled for tonight got postponed to Thursday. Next week we start our double-elimination playoffs.

A fun visit from our friend Krissy
Krissy, our friend from Penn State as well as RTP days, came to our house for the weekend with her dog Koda. We had a great time as usual. Watched some movies, including Pirates of the Caribbean (review: not bad), as well as a few comedy DVDs. Also had a lot of great food to eat, including Sweet Tomatoes, On the Border, and revel bars. We finished up with a great time at the park, having the dogs go swimming for nearly an hour. Thanks for coming, Krissy!

20 mile run today
Finally, a summer Saturday morning with good running conditions! With a lot of rain clouds in the area, the temperature stayed in the 70s and low 80s for the length of the run. I got to the park at 6:30am so that I'd have lots of time to finish, and it took almost four hours to do the full 20 miles. I felt good throughout most of the run, but I was really tired when I got back and had a good nap. This puts me in good position with my marathon and half-marathon training!

First extra-base hit of the season!
We lost both games in a double-header tonight, and both were lost on the last at-bat. Bummer! But in the second inning of the second game, I had a triple. Actually, the base coach was sending me home, and then changed his mind halfway through. Glad to finally get something better than a single! Lost track of my stats, I think about 4 hits in 7 at-bats, also reaching on an error and scoring a few runs.

Softball loss to the #1 team
Once again, we played the #1 team very close but lost a nailbiter, 13-11. A disappointing outing for me, with only one hit and one run in four at-bats. Game time temperature of 100 degrees!

A nice run in the heat
This morning we did a training run at work, about 4.5 miles in slightly under 45 minutes. Man was it hot! Gotta get ready for the race season though!
