I wanted to title this entry "Playing our rivals", but to have a rivalry both sides need to occasionally win. The Lions have beaten our Yuengling team every time in my six years with the team, often twice per year. Thursday night we brought one of our strongest Yuengling teams, and the Lions had some recent struggles. Would this be the night we made history?
No! The game was an offensive onslaught from the Lions. Our defense played spectacularly and only gave up one goal. We didn't get enough chances offensively and lost 1-0. It was my best and our best game of the season. I thanked the Lions for always bringing out the best in our group. They win with class and I tip my hat to them. Someday I hope we beat them, and if so it would be the greatest athletic achievement of my time. Since I'm a Philadelphia Eagles fan I'm used to saying "Maybe next year!"
I saw the highlights of ESPN's interviews with the presidential candidates last night and I thought the answers to one question were pretty funny. The question: "What's the one thing you would do to improve sports today?"
Barack Obama: "I'd have a real playoff for college football"
John McCain: "I'd eliminate the use of performance-enhancing drugs"
Who'da thunk it? Barack goes with a populist message and McCain goes with an unwinnable war!
