Instead of posting my own writeup, I'll let pitcher Bill take over.
The Grandpa's, that is the number #1 seeded Grandpa's, face the two-time defending champion Big Blue Sox in one of the hottest playing days of the year. We had 9 versus their 10, thus compensating for the seed disparity. The Grandpa's for at least the fourth game in a row jumped out to a big lead after just a few innings, leading 7-1 after two, highlighted by Ryan's two-run in-the-park homer down the right field line. Once again the Grandpa's faltered in the middle innings, and the Big Blue Sox pounded the ball, and we were down 14-12 after 6. Then the Big Blue Sox started to show some fear of a Grandpa comeback, and more than one ask the umpire if the game oughtn't be called due to time. But the game continued and the Big Blue Sox showed even more fear of a Grandpa comeback by scoring 3 more runs in the top of the seventh.
Down by 5 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Grandpa's pounded out 3 singles, one error, one infield double off the pitchers glove, to put the tying run to second with one out. The Big Blue Sox then pitched around Bill for the second time in the game (showing a total lack of scouting, or the use of IBM data mining software) and now the winning run was on first. A single by Ryan brought Leroy home with the tying run, and a single by our fearless Captain (that's why they pay him the big bucks) brought in the winning run!
The final score was 18-17 Grandpa's on 25-41 hitting (and 3 sac flies, for those of you doing the math).
The postgame celebration included this quote from Coach Mike: "Guys, I don't even dream about games like this anymore!"
My line: 4-4, BB, 3R, 3RBI
