Soccer: Co-ed playoff preview?
We played the #2 team last night, a very tough team which has the best player in the IBM league. We used a special defense called "box and one", meaning that the entire team played zone defense (each player defending an area) with one player shadowing their best player. It didn't appear to work better than any other defense, as he torched as for three goals and one assist. We managed only one goal in return.

The regular season is over, and we compiled a record of 3 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. Unofficially, that looks good enough for the #3 seed in a 7 team playoff field. If we're able to get past our first round game, we'll get a rematch against the #2 team. Hopefully co-captain Chris is right: "We're more of a playoffs team."

Football: Halfway through the season
Hard to believe that the young football season is already past the halfway point. We played another great game on Monday, shutting out the #3 team while scoring 4 touchdowns. Final score 24-0. I had redemption against the "out" route used to beat me for a touchdown in our second game, as I recognized the play while it was happening and knocked down the ball with both hands in the last play before halftime.

Soccer: Men's first playoff game
It's a bit of a Yuengling tradition to have a mediocre season followed up with a good playoff run. Let's hope that pattern continues! On the strength of two first-half goals by Lawrance, we got and held a 2-0 lead for the duration of the game. The defense played great and let me sit on my hands for most of the time. Our reward is a rematch against the #1 seed and defending champion Lions!

Football: They are who we thought they are!
They are who we thought they are! You want to crown them? Then crown them! (Thanks to Dennis Green for the rant) We had a rematch against defending champion Dade last night, and once again they proved why they are the top team. After our eight interception performance last week, our defense only came up with one stop last night. The offense had similar tough results, scoring only one touchdown. Final margin: 32-6.

Co-ed soccer: Slipping a bit
On Tuesday we suffered our 3rd loss of the season 4-2. We had some bright spots, particularly the second half, and also were on the wrong end of some lucky bounces. One more game left in the regular season, and then it's playoffs!

Football: The best defense is a good... defense!
Our defense came out strong tonight, with not one, not two, not three or four or five, not six or seven, but eight (!) interceptions against last year's B-league champs. I contributed two INTs and two passes defensed. Offensively we were good enough, scoring 18 points in a shutout victory, bringing us to 2-1 on the season.

Cassidy's first time in Cary
We had a great group of visitors this weekend: Mom, Dad, Amy, Josh, and Cassidy, who made her first trip to Cary. We did the usual: Sweet Tomatoes, Brigs, and just lounging around. Still a lot of fun!

#300 and memories of times past
Pardon the navel-gazing, but I see this is post 300 - cool!

I just wanted to write about how much fun Elise and I had tonight when we took out the musical instruments we last played in middle and high school. She played the sax and I played trumpet. We played from my "So you want to learn to play a musical instrument" books, as well as my Star Wars and Christmas books. We even played together for the few songs I could transpose fast enough in my head (if Elise played a written C, I had to play an F). Lots of fun!

Men's soccer: Into the playoffs on a good note
Another strong performance by our men's soccer team led to a 2-1 victory. We expect to get a rematch next week in the playoffs against the same opponent. We finished the year with a record of 3-5, which is pretty good considering how we looked for our first two games!

Football: Coming together as a team
Only two games into the season, our flag football team is really coming together. We had a near perfect first half on Wednesday, jumping out to an 18-6 lead. Defensively, Andre and me intercepted the only two long pass attempts by our opponents. Offensively, we connected on nearly any play we wanted.

In the second half we gave up two touchdowns, including a late touchdown that put us behind 19-18 with two minutes to play. Rob architected a masterful drive to give us the go-ahead score. Our defense was stout in the final minute to preserve a 24-19 win, our first of the young season.
