17 mile long run
Perhaps the last really long run before my marathon. I'm not sure what I will do next week, with the 10K race looming in two weekends. I ran for about three and a half hours today, with my expectation for the marathon being five hours. Is that enough training? Only time will tell!

State of emergency in Apex
Last night we woke up around 11:30pm to a couple of thunder-like noises. We went downstairs to see if Scout was destroying things, but instead it turned out to be chemical explosions in the neighboring town of Apex. So far 16,000 people have been evacuated from the center of Apex, due to the chemical gas plume from the explosions. It appears that the winds will shift, blowing from the north, so there are no expected evacuations for Cary.

Back is feeling better
After a week of some soreness, my back is feeling a lot better. I worked on putting in new grass seed in my backyard this weekend, and I went on a five mile run Monday morning. Speaking of this weekend, my parents came down to help and we had a great time working and visiting :-)

A new Sun Certified Programmer for Java!
I went to a local testing center today and passed my SCJP exam with a score of 86% (59% is pass/fail mark). Thanks to the Sierra and Bates study guide for making the exam preparation go smoothly. It seems that a celebratory trip to Goodberry's is in order, for a custard blizzard treat :-)

An article at the New York Times reports that travellers may now board with drinks purchased in the terminals, and you can bring any toothpaste/liquid under three ounces.
