Races I have run
  • 25th Annual News and Sentinel Half Marathon, Parkersburg, WV, August 21, 2011: I came back to the race I knew best. After a four year and two surgery hiatus from running, I was ready for another go. This time around I trained without a stopwatch and heartrate monitor and learned to trust myself. It worked wonders and I ran this race in personal record time! My finish time: (2:16:05)
  • Pocono Marathon, Tobyhanna, PA, May 6, 2007: A long time coming... fully chronicled in a blog post entitled 26.2 reasons to run a marathon. People who say that a marathon is 90% mental are not kidding. My finish time: (5:55:30)
  • 29th Annual Jefferson Hospital Philadelphia Distance Run, Philadelphia, PA, September 17, 2006: I ran this race with my friend from work, Harmeet. We set out to beat Oprah's half-marathon time of 2:16. Unfortunately, I had tired legs and could not do it. Harmeet was able to meet this goal, however. My finish time: (2:29:30)
  • 20th Annual News and Sentinel Half Marathon, Parkersburg, WV, August 19, 2006: Racetime temperatures were in the low 70s, and I was feeling good this day. The hilly course is definitely the most challenging I have run. I started out very slow, about fifth from the end after one mile and 23rd from the end at the 10K split, but I was able to finish strong while others were losing stamina. My finish time: (2:21:09)
  • 10th Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure, Raleigh, NC, June 10, 2006: 5K in Raleigh, fundraising event for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. My finish time: (26:30)
  • Charlotte RaceFest at SouthPark, Charlotte, NC, April 8, 2006: My second half-marathon race went much better than my first. I trimmed a half hour off my previous half-marathon race and felt good throughout the race. A few hills to keep things interesting, but a fun experience altogether. My dad came down to race the 10K at the same time. My finish time: (2:22:40)
  • 9th Annual Inside-Out Sports Classic, Cary, NC, October 23, 2005: My first 10K race, with an out and back course. My dad came from PA to run the race with me. At the starting line, he told me "I'll stick with you until the turnaround, then see what happens from there." Thirty seconds after the starting pistol, I did not see him again until I crossed the finish line! Race day temperatures were in the 40s, so we each finished with a layer of frost on our shirts. My finish time: (55:20)
  • 19th Annual News and Sentinel Half Marathon, Parkersburg, WV, August 20, 2005: My first half marathon race was a "survival crawl" to the end. A tough, hilly course and hot August temperatures combined with my race inexperience to make this a tough race. After finishing, I ended up in the medical tent receiving fluids My finish time: (2:55:25)
  • 9th Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure, Raleigh, NC, June 2005: 5K in Raleigh, fundraising event for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. My finish time: (28:00)
  • 8th Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure, Raleigh, NC, June 2004: My first 5K. It took me a few weeks to work up to the distance. I really enjoyed the race atmosphere, and was glad to raise a little money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. My finish time: (29:56)
  • 10th Annual Inside-Out Sports Classic, Cary, NC, October 22, 2006: A fun race where my dad, brother-in-law, and myself had a good time on a cold and hilly course
Current running gear
  • Polar RS200sd Running Computer: A great heart rate monitor (HRM). It has a ton of features, but my favorites are the odometer, automated lap recording, and integration with the Polar Running Coach service.
  • Fuel Belt Terminator 6-Bottle Belt: Holds six 7 oz. bottles plus a pouch for cellphone and keys. Just enough hydration for long runs in the summer, while not being too heavy.
  • Powerbar Gel: A great pick-me-up that I use about once per hour on long runs. A definite boost of energy and stamina. I have tried other gels, but the Powerbar formula is my favorite
  • Powerbar Performance: Energy bar great for pre- and post-run.
  • Snickers Marathon Energy Bar: Another good energy bar, when I get tired of the Powerbars. I buy whichever of these that I can find in bulk.
  • Fitness Gear shorts and shirts: Wicks away some moisture, but I can still soak them!
  • Under Armour socks: A little extra cushioning over regular socks. Not outrageously expensive compared to other running socks
